Goodbye 2006

Christmas has come and gone! The year 2006 is just a few hours away from its retirement for ever... Thinking of this I begin to feel a bit nostalgic. I kind of enjoyed this year. I hope that the year 2007 will be something memorable and enjoyable as well. I am becoming 'emo' as I type all these down... 'Memorable moments' of 2006 January : My exmaid came over to stay for a month. Was waiting for her next employer to come. She took my bed and I had the floor. We had a bit of disagreements that still sticks in my mind. February : I found a job that paid RM 10 per hour. Five days a week and five hours a day! March : STPM results came out. Hmm... No As and no Cs la. A bit sad though. Who would not be? April : Easter!!! May : Applied to UTAR as backup plan. Got surprise call from them saying that I was accpeted. Had to quit my job that day itself.. June : Adapting to life in Uni after 13 years of life in government schools.. Announcement of acceptance into local Us.. Go

Bukit Merah Trip 2

Image
A continuation... Otters in their glass compartments.. They eat nuts and make cute crying-like sounds.. Sheeps.. A bit smelly and when it stands on its two hind legs, it is menancing. Ducks waddling around.. Herd mentality... Cute. Barking deer of some sorts. Damn bising asking for food. Ahh!!! Rabbits!!! So adorable... Guinea pigs!!! Adorable too... Iguana.. It is free to roam around, but naturally everyone kept a distance from it. The End!

Bukit Merah Trip 1

Image
Just last Tuesday, my family went for a short holiday to Bukit Merah Laketown Resort. All the while, we have heard of it but we did not really know what it was all about. This resort is located in the middle of nowhere. Seriously... You want food, you have got to travel for more than 10 minutes to get there. The place we stayed at was Palm View apartments... And, you really get a 'fantastic' view of palm trees. Just open the windows, you see palms... All you see from your room window is palm trees among growths of lalang and weeds. How suitable the name is. :P This apartment seriously is not meant for people who are very particular of cleanliness like me!!! There are stains everywhere! Bed cover, bed sheets even the pillow sheets!! Some had reddish -like stains which seriously... urgh.. you kow what comes to mind don't you?! Yucks.. My skin crawls whenever I think of it again.. haha. I mean I do not mind staying in a zero star place but please la... cleanliness is important

Exam invigilator

Been on holidays since the mid of September. Can not say that I did much though with that 'precious' time. I spent most of that time being at home, just the need to want to relax at home. But , a lot of people think I am lazing around on my big fat bum! Hello?? My definition of relaxing at home is with a great book tucked under my arm, the quietness of the house and a nice glass of cold watermelon juice beside me on a table on the patio! Well of course that will only happen after I wake my sister up for school, prepare lunch for my sisters, drop one sister off at school, drop lunch to ANOTHER sister at ANOTHER school, come back home, bring in the clothes, wash the lunch dishes and bla-bla bla-bla bla! Well, there goes my fantasy of RELAXING! (How Sad) So, in order to stop people from making so much comments as the number of stars in the sky, I accepted the first job that dropped into my lap. And it did, sort of speaking. My mom asked me to be an invigilator for her school whi

Image
A sort of continuation to my last post.. Lantern festival woudn't be complete without mooncakes a.k.a. YuE BinG . Another name for lantern festival is Monncake festival.. Besides mooncakes, we also had something extra. Pig cakes..?? Bleh ! Name sounds terrible.. Piggie is SO much better. Here they are! Are they not super-duper ADORABLE ??? A pair of pigs.. Have a great PIG day!

Lantern Festival

Image
I don't know why, but this year, I suddenly had the urge to play with lanterns during this festival. I used to collect dry leaves, twigs and paper and then gather it together and light it to form a bonfire. This was when I was way younger, before my teens I think. Then, slowly, this passion for lanterns just sort of died of. But now, that passion has been ignited again. I even went all the way to Carrefour just to buy the paper lanterns and candles. And mind you, it really is paper lanterns I am talking about here. Not the battery operated type which is as hard as rock and gives out sounds like mosquitoes having a gathering in your house. Not even the wired animals or bugs which you carry along using sticks. Nope. Just plain , old (rather new) traditional but beautiful paper lanterns. And the view are as below: Ta-da! Using my gua sam ga (place for hanging clothes) to hang lanterns instead.. Is it not ingenious? Just kidding. This is the opposite view... exactly the same gua sam ga

Photo Frame

Image
Ta da! I have finally done something useful and worth talking about during my first two weeks of holidays. I did a transformation, no, not on me, but on a plain wooden photo frame. And the results are as below: This is the top frame, decorated with blue ring beads paired together. This is the bottom frame where I used milky white beads. And this is the side frame where I used glitter dust. I think it's awfully pretty especially if you had seen the frame before these construction works. The work doesn't take too long as long as you have the materials and the concentration to do it. Great activity to do during holidays. Oh yeah, the cost is quite cheap for the beads and stuff. Anyway, the frames are available at IKEA. So, go buy some and let your creativity flow...

Before and After

Do you know how it feels when everytime exams come, eveything is off limits to you? I mean, like during my study week, I was not supposed to touch the computer, not to play games or go online. (My own doing). Everytime I sit down to study at the table (computer in front of me), my hands itch to touch the mouse or even the keyboard. Urgh! Computer games during this 'perfect time' (duration before exams) are especially 'enticing' (Forgive me if it's the wrong adjective). My heart longs to be with this LCD screen and its coulourful 'nature'. My eyes ache to be glued to its bright and sparkly 'eyes'. Aahhh! And then, here you go telling yourself, "Study girl, study. It's only for three weeks. The computer will still be there, but your exams are only once!!" Then I drag myself, still unwillingly to go and study. But it always does not last long, no matter where I go, I can hear the oh so sweet melody of the computer games being played by my s

St. Luke's Gospel

I just came back from the Actors' Studio in Bangsar. I didn't expect the studio to be that small but it was real cosy to me. Kind of like a small lecture hall but with cushioned chairs. The rows of seat were so near the stage with only seven rows in front of it. It's like the guy was just right in front of your very eyes. The purpose of this trip was to watch a guy present the Gospel according to St. Luke through his actions and just his words. Nope, he didn't read from the bible. It was rather like he was acting out the parables like in a show. A one man show though. He's one of the actors from broadway. Bruce Kuhn. Man, the way he retold St. luke's gospel was very interesting. Makes it easier to remember what happened and its sequence. During his presentation, he will be kneeling, running, shouting, crouching, doing all sorts of things to represent the different groups of people who were involed in the events. He even had a podium thing which he would knock on

Please and Smile

Malaysians are courteous. This is a community message from one of our local radio stations. In this message, they ask us to memorise these four words: Excuse me, Thank you. In my opinion, they left out one other important word: PLEASE. And, you shouldn't just memorise them... Use them! If you remember but don't use it, what's the point? No one will know you are polite except your brain. Why do I say that the word 'please' is important? Imagine someone gritting their teeth, tryng to elbow their way out of a packed train. "Excuse me excuse me." They go, faces scrunched up in frustration. That doesn't seem very nice or polite don't you think. (Not that I don't understand what they're going through. Been there done that, packed trains, you can hardly breathe, human sardines.) BUT, when you add the please word, you tend to say it in a nicer way and your face also gives out a little smile no matter how hard you train your poker face. Please is a

Patriotism

It's that time of the year again. Or month, which ever that is... But, no! Not 'that time' of the month. When we, the people are told/encouraged to put up/fly the National flag to show our patriotism. Seriously, does flying the flag mean you're being patriotic? So what about the other times of the year when we don't fly flags? Does it mean we're being unpatriotic? That's what the implication sort of means though. Patriotism doesn't come from flying our national flags, it comes from deep within the heart. What is the use of flying the national flag when we speak bad of our contry to visitng friends? There are surely a lot of other ways which we can show our patriotism. For example, pay our income taxes on time and don't try to evade it. Returning back any loans the government has funded to help us in our studies, like the PTPTN loans. Coming back to your country to serve, to pass on your teachings, experiences to the future generations. Be one with yo

Train Experience

Five days a week I take the LRT and KTM to class. These few weeks, I have always observed how people board the train. In KL Sentral, people automatically line up in two lines at the side to wait for the LRT. The middle space is for people in the train to disembark. But there are some people, either they are just plain ignorant or too self-absorbed in their own 'sweet' world, like to stand right in the middle of the pathway! Blur sotong! Maybe it's trick of theirs, so they don't have to line up, they can simply pretend to 'cut queue'. Some people like to stand in front of you and block your way into the train, when it was obviously you who was standing in that place first and was already waiting in line! Makes me mad. it becomes worse when you wait for the KTM in KL sentral around 5 something in the evening. People will push and push to get into the train. People who want to come out end up being pushed back inside the train again! Even if you stand still and let

Local U application

Yes, I have officially started classes in UTAR. Yes, I am also still travelling everyday to UTAR and back home. Yes, I am also very thankful to God that I got this place in UTAR. Though at first I was complaining about it. Hehe. The results for local U's applications were out last Monday. Some people were successful, some were not. I for one, can be considerd lucky to be offered a place. Yet, I did not get the course that Iwanted. Not even one of my eight choices. I was offered to do communication engineering in KUKUM in Perlis! The ironic thing is, I didn't even take physics for STPM! The nerve... One of my ex-school mates scored As in her STPM, yet she failed to get a place in the local Us. How is this application thing done, I do not know. All I know is, that I am glad that I applied for other Us while waiting for local Us. But now, I feel a bit sad that newly made friends are going off to local Us to continue their studies.. We somehow got to know one another better through

UTAR admission

I am really really confused, surprised, shocked and disorientated. On the first Saturday of May, I went to UTAR to send in my application for one of their courses. Just in case, I don't get the course I want in local u. The courses start in May. The course that I wanted was full, well, practically every science course was full. So I asked them to put me in for next year's Januray intake. (Just in case). I had settled that and thought they won't be calling me until next yaer. Then, just this Thursday, during their UTAR orientation day, they called to inform me that they are offering me a course of my choice. They are calling me at the last minute! I have to pay the bills by this coming Monday, find a place to stay(cause my campus is in Setapak), get myself mentally ready and also try to settle myself in. I have already missed their orientation day. So when I go for class this Monday, I will be like a real lost sheep. Won't know where my classes will be and stuff like tha

On the other end

During form four and form five, I had teachers that seemed to me incapable of teaching us. They do not know how to answer questions that we pose to them. This frustrated me greatly and I used to be biased against these teachers. I sort of disliked them and would find every mistake that they make, to complain about. They were teachers for goodness sake, they should know the answers! Same thing happened in form six with our chemistry teacher, who had stopped teaching the subject 16 years ago and needed to refresh her mind. Her teaching was hesitant and whenever we asked questions her answer was always go and read up from your text books or copy from your friends. I was really flustered at that time. Now, in my job as a homework guidance teacher, I find it hard to answer every question that a student doesn't know. I have to hesitate, think for awhile and check up the dictionary before I can give them a clear and correct answer. I can see the students being flustered themselves and eve

My Temporary job

Haha. At last, I have managed to secure a temporary job to fill up my months of free time. I am not sure for how long I'll be working but I will spend at least a month doing something useful. Haha. The job that I am in now, I feel very happy about it. Not only the high pay but also the work. I am currently working as a homework guidance teacher to children from Std 1 to Std 5. Wokring hours are 7.30am to 9.30am and then 3.30pm to 6.30pm. Five hours a day and I only have to work during weekdays. My pay is RM 10 per hour.. So each day I'll be RM 50 richer!! Cool dude. Feel so happy that I got this job. Seriously :) The kids aren't that bad, but there are always one or two that drive you nuts with their words and behaviour. Argh! Some of them are so cute and puny that I actually enjoy talking with them and seeing them. Hehe. Some are so sweet, they give little presents like sweets or biscuits. Which reminds me, I have to buy some goodies to give them too. This job really is be

My Chinese New Year

Year after year, I have always celebrated Chinese New Year the same old way. Changes to our routine rarely happens. On the eve of the Chinese New Year (CNY), My whole family will go back to seyang to my grandma's house to have the reunion dinner. It is a time for family members to gather together especially those who are busy working and rarely seen for most of the year. Time for people to catch up with one another, like who's getting married, who has kids, whose girlfriend and boyfriend and so on. This dinner is a big feast with lots of food to signify lots of wealth through the whole new year. Each food laid on the table signifies something good and positive. At night, parents are said to have a longer life the longer their children keep awake during this eve night. The next morning which is also the first day of CNY, I normally have nin go for breakfast covered with shredded coconut. Then we head off to Church to start the New Year with blessings. Haha. We also get an angpau

Future

It is already the year 2006. And so far, I have yet to find any temporary jobs to fill up my spare time with. Now, I am at home doing housework and other normal stuff. I think I will soon bore myself to death, that's why I am online during this time of the day. But finding a job is the least of my worries in the sense of long term goals. The thing that worries me is my future path after STPM. Should I wait for my results and for the entry into local universities? Or should I just enrol into private universities once I get my STPM results? Classes only commence in July and for local Us it is either in June or July as well. So far, the only private Us offering pharmacy courses are IMU, UCSI and Nottingham. Fees are not cheap too. My dad will have to sell a house in order to enrol me. But am I really sure of going to private Us? What about my two years in STPM, the main aim, to get entry into local Us? Ai yayay.. what to do?
