Bits and Pieces 4

Image
Am blogging to release tension and alleviate a bit of the depressing mood that I am in. It's just a struggle to get my project paper moving. Have you been to OneCity in USJ? It's nice... They have this rooftop area where you can look across, as far as your eyes can see, to different areas of Puchong, Putra Heights and Subang. Being up there at night is beautiful with the streetlights and cars driving by... nothing much to see at some dark corners though. Haven't tried it in the daytime yet. Lol! What I liked was the glass area where you could walk onto it and look down into the shopping mall itself. Do this at night, you can't see anything in the daytime. It was funny how AS and I crossed this glass panel. There we were two people who wanted the thrill (cheap thrill, :P) of crossing the glass top, but the minute we stepped onto the glass panel, we held onto each other to cross to the other side... Hahahahaha. The view of the ground floor of One City from...

A Trip, Food and a Puppy

Sorry been missing quite a while. Here's what has been happening! Exams are finally over and I am officially done with five trimesters of my studies... Whooppee!! Now, I only have one more trimester to go. You can do it Kathleen.Go kick some arse. Here's what some of us did to celebrate the end of exams. Crazy spontaneous trip. Genting's cool glow in the dark bowling alley We went up to Genting for a while. "A while" as in we left at 4pm sth and came down at 8pm sth... The shortest Genting trip ever in my life. I want to stay the night next time please. :) We got lost... hahahaha had to make a u turn near Taman Melati and get back on the proper track. The other car reached first and had to wait again for us as we could not find the parking entrance into One World hotel. The renovation up there is a mess! Well, we basically just hanged out in the casino. Some of them wanted to play, finance people ma, the rest of us just walked around, took ...

Fried Rice Version 2

Image
I cooked dinner!! Muahaha. Mom and dad weren't around for the weekend. They packed their bags, left the country and ran away from us, leaving the three of us to fend for ourselves. Lol!   So, I decided to put my cooking skills to the test. (Partly because I was tired of eating out.) Head knowledge and skills..   And this is what I came up with...   Voila! Kath's seemingly burnt fried rice.    Fried rice. Not your typical fried rice... because I used brown and red rice instead of white rice. So it looks kinda dark....   As I was eating this dish, I realized the mistakes that were made.   No.1: Too much water was used to boil the rice, thus it was very lumpy and hard to break apart in the kuali. No. 2: I wanted crunchy ikan billis to munch on. I should have taken them out after getting enough of its flavour into the oil. Instead, I continued frying it with the rest of the ingredients and my delectable snack became...

Of English, American and Local Pancakes

Image
Came home from work on a Saturday to this waiting for me in the refrigerator....Dessert!!! Yum-mos.... Sumptuous Desserts.. Never heard of it till that day. Inside were two of these mouth-watering and adorable 'pancakes', especially kept for me by mom. Hahahah. One was yellow and durian flavoured whereas the bottom one is green and contains mango pieces!! See? See? Mmm.... Delicious.... Hahahaha. Real pieces of mango fruit and cream (bleah..) Wrapped up in... something edible. One piece is not enough I tell you!! I want more... hahah. I like that it is bite-sized, not too sweet and just the right texture. No idea why it's called pancake though. I thought pancakes were meant to be flat.... not rolled up with stuffing. But then again, you have the English pancakes and the American pancakes which are both different in its preparation and looks too. So yea..  English pancakes are rolled up and you normally take them with a bit of sprinkled sugar and lime juice. Americ...

Sweet Cravings

Image
You know how everyone has different  kinds of tastebuds? Like how some people are sweet tooths (teeth?), some people like bitter stuff, some like it spicy and hot (like their life, hahaha), some go sour all the way and so on? Well, I am sort of a sweet tooth kinda person as evident by my fat body....Too bad the fats are at the wrong places. Anyway....(getting out of topic) yes, I like sweet stuff. And I have the occasional cravings for it. I don't think it's wrong. But I bet a few people will beg to differ. Hahaha. I'll debate it out with them if I can. Let me introduce you to my own dessert creation. *winks* It's a potent recipe for diabetes and a major toothache though. Top's vanilla ice cream, raisins, chocolate chips and cornflakes. *big wide grin* Feeling that pain in your wisdom tooth yet? I did, honestly. Then I felt sick after finishing the above bowl. Hahaha. Yea yea, I had it coming. Just didn't realise how sweet it was. The chocolate c...

Home-Cooked Dinner

Image
Worked night shift today as I wanted to go for my long-overdued facial in the morning. Why? To beautify myself of course. Duh. (sarcastically). Well, you know how it is. Girls... *rolls eyes* So anyway, I didn't have to eat in any of the restaurants in Subang Parade or Carrefour!!! Hahahaha. And I am so so happy! I tell you, six days of eating in a shopping mall is enough to kill you. And make you sick. My wonderful mom, I think most probably the best in the world (hehe), brought me home-cooked dinner! Yums! The feeling of being loved is like holding a bowl of hot soup during winter time. Ok, maybe not. But hey, if your mom cooks dinner and brings it to your workplace, just so you can have something other than over-priced food, who wouldn't feel loved and special??? Right? :D Mom decided to try something different today. She decided to do fish bee hoon (dry style) ala the Penang style we tried a few times before near the Sunway hotel in Penang. I was gobbling up my food (so ...

Homemade Applesauce

Image
Who loves apples??? I do!!! I especially love them baked and cooked though I know that the raw ones have more nutrients. But still. I also love apple pies. The ones that I will remember most are the ones baked by my late paternal grandmother. Hers was the best. Know why? Cause the pastry was just thick enough, crispy and she always always loaded her apple pies with a lot of filling!! (Heheh, yea I know. I only eat the pie for the filling.... LOL). Anyway, I was feeling kinda hungry that Sunday. There was nothing much to eat in the house except for some biscuits (which I get fed up with) and apples and carrots. So I decided to make my own apple filling aka applesauce. This was my 'adventure'. First, get some apples (duh). Hey, and please get green ones or Granny Smiths. No red ones or Red Washington's ok? Green apples taste the best and no one ever uses red apples in apple pies (I think). Wash, wash and wash!! Peel off the skin then you don't have to bother wi...

Fried Rice!!

Image
Okay, I'm not much of a cook. Huh.. But, I'm at least better than Maggi-mee cooks. Hahaha. Jk. I cook frozen food and food that come in cans, packets. :P Ok wert... I cry when I cook. (Onions ma...) I sweat when I cook. (Fire=heat=hot lo!) So I don't cook. Until... *deng deng*.. desperate situations call for desperate actions. Fed up of going to pack back food so often for lunch and felt a bit sick/jelak/sien of all the food from CNY. Leftovers again and again.. (Yes yes I am thankful that I have enough food to eat. Haha.) So since Monday was a holiday, I decided to sacrifice my tears and sweat and get my butt into the kitchen to whip up something scrumptious. The result: My very own style of home-cooked fried rice. Wahahaha. I didn't follow any recipe book. All from observation. Of course, I asked my mom for some guidelines. Guinea pigs for this meal were my dad and two younger sisters. Hehehe. Reviews weren't bad. Hooray! Considering this is my...
