Chinese New Year 2012
Happy Chinese New Year everyone.... :D
Ain't I very the CUTE? |
Yea... well the picture above doesn't really have a connection with CNY but every CNY I will always remember my grandma. I captured this photo with a camera. Talk about inception... A photo in a photo... hahaha. I still miss her dearly... cause we were very close I'd say.
After she passed away, Eileen and I started this tradition among the four of us sisters. To pour tea for our parents on the first day of Chinese New year. We wish them well and they, in turn give us their blessings and the angpows, of course! I'm not sure how it happened but we ended up kneeling down in front of both our parents while giving them their cup of tea.
See? Complete teapot and cup set, lol. |
This only came about three years ago... Why, I am not sure. This year, like the Hari Raya style, I asked for forgiveness from my two oldies (parents). I am sure I must have caused them a lot of heartache. When Char's turn came, we ended up tearing... Hahaha. Mom, dad, Shir and I. Cause of the things said, it was touching.
I went shopping on the second day of CNY. Huh... Mom wanted to get something at IKEA. (Why were we so free? Cause we weren't allowed to visit some relatives and another side had something crop up the last minute, so....) Anyway, it's the Dragon year according to the Zodiac. Everyone's hoo-haing about Dragon babies, are they a boon or bane, competitive babies, better luck and so forth. So naturally, merchandisers cash in on this to sell their goods. But, this is too funny....
Dragon slippers.... I'm a dragon... |
IKEA had this bedroom slippers for sale. Very Chinese-y right? At first glance, I thought it was a golden dragon embroidered on a red background. Upon second inspection, it's NOT even a dragon at all!!! Hahahaha. It's just some random pattern. Honestly, tell me if you see the head or tail of a dragon, none right? I'm not sure if this was meant to be a dragon. If it was, IKEA, get people with knowledge of drawings to do your designs. Lol!
Oh and I just realized why IKEA could decorate their place nicely, especially by filling up their cupboard displays with books. The books are all in Swedish (me no comprende). If it was in English, I bet you it wouldn't last long there.
That's it. Happy Chinese New Year....
