Freaky Foursquare

If you own a facebook account (most likely you do) or if you own a blackberry, iphone and what not kind of gadgets, you would most probably have seen OR use this application. Foursquare.

One word to describe this app (in my opinion) : FREAKY

All the while, I only knew that this app showed where a certain person was whenever he/she logs in at that particular venue.
Like, so-and-so has just checked-in @ *blah blah blah*.
Annoying, because it spams your facebook wall.
Especially when the place they logged in at has no purpose. Eg. Famous Persiaran Kewajipan Traffic Jam. Like, what's your purpose of telling people in your FB? So they will sympathize with you because you are stuck in a jam? And it happens almost ALMOST e-ve-ry-day....................
(What's my purpose of telling you about it here anyway? Hmm...)

I said it's freaky because I just realized how easily it can be used to stalk people.

Went out with a group of friends to a dessert shop somewhere in SS15.
Guys being guys started playing with their iPhones. Girls just talk and talk. Hahaha.
One of the guys (LL) uses Foursquare daily for everything. He logged on into his account. If not mistaken, this app also shows you who else is checked-in into the same place as you are at that same period of time.
LL then showed us a picture of a girl (a total stranger) on his iPhone. He said that the girl was here because she also checked into the same place as he did.
We looked around the shop and sure enough we spotted her. That freaked me out!!

I mean strangers are strangers. It's nothing. But when you are suddenly able to put a name to that face you see, it's like people start to know who you are already. Heck!!! Both SY and I got quite shocked when we saw the stalking potency of this annoying app.

According to LL, you can also actually use your friend's account and check in to where he is, even when you're nowhere where you 'say' you are. Huh??? (Lying app much?) You can even know where all your friends are and that's when troubles begin to brew....

"I thought you said you were in Asia Cafe?!! I didn't see you also!!" Friend A.
"I was la!!! Then I went to Tanjung Bistro, cannot meh?" Friend B.
Friend A and friend B starts arguing....

"I know you went shopping at Empire's LaSenza today right?" says guy to girl.
Girl slaps guy's face....

*The above scenarios are half true and half fiction.*

Freaky enough for you yet?
No way am I getting a Foursquare account.

no way i'm getting that too! what a way to announce to the world of your whereabouts which I thought is totally unnecessary! i mean, don't they cherish privacy?

I know!!! It's like what on earth is happening to people..?!! Like isn't privacy worth anything at all? Why the need to announce where you are...

Of Vampires and Werewolves

I've never really been an ardent fan of the Twilight series(boo...says you). And I have no idea why some girls go gaga over Edward the vampire. He looks so paste-y with the bloodshot eyes (yea yea he's supposed to look that way). And bleah! I think he looked way hotter in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Cedric Diggory . That, I can go gaga. But in Twilight??? The romance between Edward and Bella is fine. Romantic, mushy and cliched. Heh. But there's nothing much for me to shout about. (Sorry to the ardent fans, esp to my three sisters. Ha.) This year, the next sequel in this series is about to be released tentatively in November. Known as New Moon , the title is definitely appropriate since the werewolves play a bigger role this time. I didn't read any of the books in the Twilight series though my sisters finished the whole lot of it. So there's no doubt I have no idea of what's going on in the next book. My Future???

After thinking for a while, (ok, not a while but many whiles) I have finally decided what to do after I graduate (hopefully) in May this year. I have narrowed it down to two options. Sigh. Either I continue my studies and proceed wtih Masters (God, help me..) or I apply for this work and travel thing to US for six months. Will see how it goes... see which comes first. If it's the latter, I'd most probably miss my Convocation. If the former is first, the latter will no longer be on my list. We'll see we'll see. :) P/S: Applying for masters has nothing to do with what the government has allocated to help the economy.
